A Good Way to Spend a Saturday

You guessed it, Dad driving, Fara knitting, Me...well, I really try not to, I swear, but whenever I get in that back seat, sunglasses on and the idyllic scenery of the west whipping by...out, asleep.
But, I did keep the snoozing at a minimum and whipped my head up at the sound of every "Oooh" and "Aaaah" and "Aw, pretty."
It was fairly rainy for the first ten days I was here, so we've been waiting until there were a few sunny days before heading to the east side of the mountain to make our rounds in search of fresh fruit. The season is still very far behind and we didn't find Oregon cherries, but that's alright, we found a whole host of natural Oregon charms.
The first stop was Draper Girls' Farm. Some of you may recognize that name after me incessantly cooing over those dried Calypso beans I bought from them last year, and I know at least one of you got to eat them in chili last year. Sadly, they didn't have them this year, they did have a whole bunch of other legumy treasures, however. Draper Girls is known for their fruits and cider mill. The cherry trees were abundant and sprightly, but only just flowering when we arrived. There were big bins of Chelan cherries from Washington however and the cold storage was still well supplied with apples and pears from last season. We loaded up a small wealth of #2 Chelan cherries, Pippin apples and red D'Anjou pears for the dehydrator at home. I plucked a handsome jar of Boysenberry preserves for future use and...
